Tangier – Merzouga – Marrakech 6 day itinerary
Day 1Tangier – Chefchaouen
Pick-up at your hotel, the port or Tangier airport and drive through the Rif mountains to Chefchaouen, the “blue city”. Free afternoon to wander its blue streets and climb to the Spanish Mosque viewpoint at sunset.
Day 2Chefchaouen – Fes
After breakfast we drive to Fes, Morocco’s oldest imperial city, and spend much of the day in the Fes el Bali medina: Bou Inania madrasa, Al Qarawiyyin university and the Chouara tanneries.
Day 3Fes – Ifrane – Midelt – Ziz Valley – Merzouga
We cross the Middle Atlas via Ifrane and the cedar forest, have lunch in Midelt and drive down the Ziz Valley to the Merzouga dunes.
Day 4Merzouga – Erg Chebbi
A day in the desert: we drive one of the Paris-Dakar rally tracks by 4×4 and visit nomad families and the Gnawa village of Khamlia. At sunset, a camel ride to the camp in the dunes for dinner under the stars.
Day 5Merzouga – Rissani – Todra Gorge – Boumalne Dades
Sunrise over the dunes and camel ride back. We pass Rissani, continue to Todra Gorge and arrive in the Dades Valley.
Day 6Dades – Ouarzazate – Ait Ben Haddou – High Atlas – Marrakech
We reach Ouarzazate (Atlas film studios), visit the Ait Ben Haddou kasbah (UNESCO) and cross the High Atlas over Tizi n’Tichka to Marrakech.
